{"id":29,"date":"2017-04-05T15:43:07","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T13:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.socat.info\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2023-11-02T21:19:41","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T20:19:41","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/socat.info\/index.php\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About SOCAT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Participants at the \u201cSurface Ocean CO\u2082 Variability and Vulnerability\u201d (SOCOVV) workshop at UNESCO, Paris in April 2007, co-sponsored by IOCCP, SOLAS, IMBER, and the Global Carbon Project, agreed to establish a global surface fCO\u2082 data set that would bring together, in a common format, all publicly available fCO\u2082 data for the surface oceans.<\/p>\n<p>This Surface Ocean CO\u2082 Atlas (SOCAT) data set serves a wide range of user communities. Two distinct data products are available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> level quality controlled global surface ocean fCO\u2082 data set,<\/li>\n<li>and a gridded SOCAT product of monthly surface water fCO\u2082 means on a 1\u00b0 x 1\u00b0 grid with no temporal or spatial interpolation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(The fugacity of carbon dioxide, or fCO\u2082, is the partial pressure of CO\u2082 (pCO\u2082) corrected for non-ideal behaviour of the gas.)<\/p>\n<p>SOCAT version 2022, made public in 2022, includes data from more than 10 countries. It has 37.3 million quality controlled surface ocean fCO\u2082 measurements from 1957 to 2022, as well as calibrated sensor data. The SOCAT data set uses IOCCP recommended formats for metadata and data reporting.
