The Surface Ocean CO<\/span>2<\/span> Atlas (SOCAT) is coordinated via the Steering Committee and a number of Hubs that coordinate and implement different aspects of SOCAT activities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Steering Committee<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The SOCAT Steering Committee (SC) is the decision-making body of SOCAT. It coordinates SOCAT activities and consults contributors on strategy and quality standards. The current SC has a chair and 12 (data) scientists from seven countries on two continents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Data management<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

This hub\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0running and\u00a0maintaining\u00a0the software and IT infrastructure\u00a0required\u00a0for SOCAT (meta-)data submission,\u00a0quality control, and publication of SOCAT synthesis products.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coordination and support<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

This hub has been newly created to coordinate annual updates to the SOCAT synthesis products and support SOCAT, via\u00a0organisation\u00a0of meetings and training events, support for data upload, QC and the SOCAT leadership,\u00a0and coordination with the Global Carbon Project. This hub will provide statistics for SOCAT, track publications using SOCAT, and\u00a0maintain\u00a0the SOCAT website.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Regional Groups<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Regional groups coordinate quality control of data within their geographic region, where local contributors can have greater\u00a0expertise\u00a0on the observations with which they are most familiar. They can also act as local contact points for SOCAT-related issues within those regions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
